Week 5, we saw the other India film–Queen. When the film beginning, I think this film will same with ‘Om Shanti On’. Because I saw the India traditional dancing, singing and cloths. However, I saw heroine’s betrothed husband want to break the promise of marriage in a cafe. (We can look the picture 1.) When she went out the cafe, she is so sad.

In some Asian countries’ traditional culture, if a girl’s betrothed husband wants to break the promise of marriage, she will hard to get married. ‘Bollywood’s struggle to portray women with more agency reflects India’s own confusion about the status of Indian women.’ (Sukanya Gupta, 2015, p. 109) So, we can get an information, in India, women have a very lower social status than men in the past. However, due to economic globalization, Asians can learn more about western culture, the impact of eastern and Western culture, women’s social status is gradually changing. This film is very good reflect on female self awareness, build self-confidence, self recognition do a very good show and affirmation, and put it all through a trip to Europe with a vivid and interesting, express cheerful nature, refreshing and empathy, is very high the identity of the heroine, it seems to tell every woman, a woman can also have their own ideas and the future, confident and independent to embrace their own life.
(Picture 2)
In the end, the heroine refused the hero’s request for marriage and left confidently.
In my opinion, this film is not as stereotypes into a Paris scenery or boring heroine’s self growth, the front section of the Paris scene even if Eiffel Tower appears even bland and disappointing, as the actress was in the same mood. Amsterdam scene also only underground youth apartments, red light district and resist the rock concert, but the heroine’s heart and character in the bumps in the slowly changing. Even when she first went into a strange field, she showed the embarrassment and uncertainty, which made her feel very close and real, just like a little nervous when she was in a certain place or an environment. The film at the appropriate time, music and slow motion are said collocation, the heroine’s happy mood, this approach is very beautiful, let the film’s artistic sense is stronger, people can better integrate into the character mood and situation, follow her laugh happily.

Great blog post!
As a Chinese, I know the consequence if a girl is abandoned by her finance which you have talk about this situation in Asia. But this film breaks this stereotype. The director gives us one thought girls can have their own excellent life without men. I totally agree with this idea. From my point of view, we should not and we can not discriminate anybody because of their gender, races, regions, beliefs and skin colors which I also talked about in my blog. I think discrimination is ridiculous because nobody is more superior.
I really like the idea you have mentioned that Rina’s emotion changed from sadness to happiness. Why do you think she becomes happy?
