In class this week, we were looking at some korsakow films.
The film (here) is quite confusing, it seems like every fragments are not related. I could not even get the meaning of it at all but I actually enjoyed the photographies. Although, the images and shots look really nice, it is somehow a bit frustrating for me when I could not get the meaning of it.
There are ideas discussion in class towards this project that I thought we could employ them in our project—there are not always be a clear meaning in every works. Some project may be an exploration of different parts or ideas: noticing, experiencing, and picking up what around us, capturing small moments than making any sense.
To think about our project, we had figured out the topic which is ‘boredom’. Boredom is one of a thing that many people have encountered it. Everyone gets bored. We could use the idea of exploration work in our project—exploring boredom from different aspects and painting out and thickening the meaning of it.
We first started defining what is boredom by asking ourselves and other people around us: What is boredom to you?, When do you feel bored? The answers we got from people and we came up with were quite similar or related to each other, therefore, we allocated those answers and scattering categorised them into 11 sections: which are
- Obligations
- Lack of stimulation
- Outside of comfort zone
- Rainy day
- I DON’T CARE
- Familiarity / Routine
- Relaxation
- Waiting
- Class
- Indecisiveness
- Conflict of interest
And the constraint we first set are that we will do both fiction and nonfiction in each categories. We thought that it will offer more engagement ways for the viewers. As well as, every fragments will be one life time which we thought that it will encourage the audience to carefully concentrate on every components since they can only watch them once.
After we figured out about our topic and plan, we presented our idea to other groups and received some useful feedback especially the question about interactive. We only thought about how can we respond to an idea of modularity (each of our footages will respond to the topic ‘boredom’ but with different perspectives) and variability (our project will allow the viewer to choose which fragments they want to watch then the next option will come up for them). We completely forgot about the ‘interactive’ function. Therefore I thought that we have to think more about how we can make the project interactive.
We also started using korsakow program for the first time, it was really confusing for me. From this week, I only knew how to link fragments together by inserting in and out keywords, and we can setup the background in colour or image.
