In todays workshop we learned a little bit about technical equipment. We learnt the basic skills on how to use a film camera and voice recorder.
Before today I had never used any equipment beyond the automatic settings, besides my photo camera. So today was an interesting class.
After going through the not so quick ‘quick’ manuals and undertaking some basic recordings I now feel that I have a good understanding of how it all works.
The thing that really surprised me was how important your surrounding environment is when it comes to recording sound. It’s so important because background noise is almost impossible to avoid, even when its very quiet it is very difficult to get complete silence.
From this I am going to make sure that when I do record my subject, for project brief 3, I will do so in a smaller room with some cushion for the sound (e.g couches, pillows, softer chairs), not in an open space and not in public. This will ensure that I get a clear sound of my subject and avoid any unwanted interruption.
