In Mondays Lecture we discussed project brief 3 and all the things that can be of use to us when we begin. We viewed various film portraits which gave me inspiration on how I could approach my film portrait.
I could possible include a series of fast images, or make use of repetition to emphasise defining characteristics of my subject matter.
The process of who I would choose to do on my portrait was most difficult but this lecture made this process a little less hard, as we had a brainstorming session during the class. After a long and rough brainstorm session I narrowed down my choices to two people, one who I knew quite well, and the other who I didn’t know quite so well. What helped me make my decision was a point made by Kayla Brettle in our week 3 lecture. She said ‘explore something you don’t know.’.
This is what helped me make my decision to do this project on the person that I didn’t know very well, Cat Poljski, an artist who makes copper prints as well as being a teacher. One thing that stood out about Cat was that she has previously conducted collaborative artworks. The way these worked was that she began a print and then sent it off through the mail to another artist who then added to this artwork. Once the other artist had completed some of the artwork they sent it back and this processes continued until they decided it was complete. The reason why this is important is because this weeks readings were all surrounding collaboration.
The one reading that directly related to this is Keith Sawyers ‘Group Genius: The creative power of collaboration’. This text discusses how a basketball team made up of various types of people from different backgrounds worked incredibly well together. It discusses important aspects, which are needed for collaboration. Although the way that Cat worked with the other artist was very different to the way this basketball team worked they both shared
-A group goal
-Close listening
-Complete concentration
-Being in control
-Blended egos
-Equal participation
-Communication
-Moving it forward
-The potential of failure
All of which are discussed further in the reading.
Collaboration is key within media as has the ability to create something incredible.
