ACTIV v JEFF SHROUD: What does it all mean?

From the beginning, we wanted to create a story that brought to mind questions of morals and made the audience think about the issues raised. Our narrative was centred around the idea of a political figurehead, blind with power and contempt, trying to disadvantage others for his own seemingly selfish means. On the other hand, we also wanted to draw attention to the protest culture that is present within the ranks of university, and the way that students react to a potential threat to their existence. The story gives our audience the chance to glean information about each of the twin figureheads, and then make up their minds about ultimately who is the protagonist or the antagonist; which one is the lesser of two evils.

We have a complex narrative that includes corruption, deceit, passion, jealousy, violence, love, and most importantly, the different interpretations of an online presence. Throughout the course of this semester, we have learnt and experienced different ways and models of storytelling and how to convey narrative through multiple mediums. This has been a very informative experience and our own storyline has been affected by the direction we have received.

What is story? Story is a way of presenting an audience with an event for the sake of interpreting specific information or to entertain and immerse them in a new world full of ideologies and opinions. A story can be told in many different ways, and each time it is up to the audience to interpret it in any way that they can imagine. As the creator of a transmedia story, the impact cannot be fully realised, for after the ideas, characters, discourse and motives are out there, a reader may interact with one or several elements. This way of storytelling is exciting and unpredictable, but the possibilities are quite infinite as far as engagement and reaction with the content.
