It took me 20 minutes of searching and a friendly Tumblr user to get invited to Ello, a new social network with a growing buzz around it’s exclusive behaviour. While I have no idea on where it is heading, I can tell you that it has been growing at a substantial rate, with individuals selling their invites for monetary gain through eBay, creating competitions to attract social traffic and encouraging other users to follow them through casual linking.
At first glance the advertisement-free and minimal layout is simple, but it still has many creases. Ello acknowledges these working issues, however, as it is still a start-up media platform working on it’s model. As there are no ‘likes’ or ‘reblogs‘ seen in such social networking platforms like Facebook and Tumblr, it works through views, follows and noise feeds allowing you to connect to other users.
Since Ello is so new, it’s hard to predict if it will take off. In the meantime, I’ll keep clicking.
