Week 11: Rough cut Process portfolio

In our group’s rough cut, we were most happy with how the lighting and camera movements of the shots turned out as well as the colouring which emphasised the crime/action genre. Upon watching the rough cut, we realised there were inconsistencies with some of the lighting between scenes, chairs being in the background, dialogue that had to be reworked, and poor acting that could have been reshot. From the feedback, the class expressed the effectiveness of the slow motion shots in creating a dramatic moment in the final fight scenes and how we should lean into the comedy genre through some of the dialogue and plotlines. The group travelled straight back to the filming location after the rough cut viewing to reshoot the inconsistent scenes. By changing the ending of the film, adjusting our lighting so that it appears consistent throughout the different rooms, and memorising our lines more efficiently drastically improved the quality of our piece into a more visually pleasing and suspenseful media piece. Through the editing process, it was important for our media piece to look and feel like it is located in an airport lounge. By adding copyright free b-roll of airports, sound effects of announcements and background chatter, and dramatic action and crime soundtracks, the editing aided in creating an airport atmosphere, similar to that of Skyways.
