Throughout this semester, I had the chance to work collaboratively with others, and found it a very valuable experience. As someone who’s rather introverted, as much as it was difficult initially, being forced outside my comfort zone to talk to others and getting some experience in working with strangers, it ultimately helped me develop a larger worldview, and I found that producing films were much easier through collaboration. This was also emphasised in my final assessment, where I worked with actors I’d never met before to create a product. The experience was nervewracking to be sure, but it was fun working with minds I’d never worked with before, and I found their fresh perspective valuable in moulding the film (for example, though it isn’t in the final film, one of my actor’s added a line through improv that I was going to use in the original ending)
For example, in my second assessment, I collaborated with two other group members in my class, and I found that dividing up tasks among multiple people (such as having one person on camera and one on lights) was incredibly efficient and made filming a lot easier.
I also found the pre-production process of media making easier with multiple people. For example, when working on a short script exercise with one of my group members Summer, I found that I liked her idea more than my own, and so we filmed that idea instead. I found that discussing ideas with others allowed for more interesting developments and ideas, which is of course invaluable in interesting and usually successful, media making. Because of such I was grateful for the opportunity presented through this class.
