Project Brief 1: Statement of Intent
With reference to the above Oxford Dictionary definitions of ‘immersion’, I am currently immersing myself into the RMIT Media course The Mechanics of Immersion, with hopefully enough fluidity so that it might be perceived as ‘diving straight in’, as per the above-mentioned ‘liquid’. My initial objectives are: a) don’t drown and b) just keep swimming.
This course not only surrounds the notion of ‘deep mental involvement in something’, but it requires that same level of attention to absorb and process its content, particularly some of the readings.
As for the third definition listed above, I can only draw a line between that and the work of David Lynch, because it sounds like something he’d do in his audio/visual productions, often for no clearly-defined reason, but always with great aplomb. I’ve casually followed his back-catalogue for decades, but this year’s series of Twin Peaks has me utterly engaged.
To even remotely emulate Lynch, I’ll need a combination of experimentation with audio and video; the use of various editing techniques and effects; and a sophisticated blend of artistic and (for university purposes) academic storytelling.
Another target I would like to achieve is to have begun producing and collecting audiovisual works I can proudly share and consider as part of my official student portfolio. I hope to deliver a reasonably professional level of production which might be considered increasingly relevant in terms of industry standard, whilst acting as a springboard into my next phase of Media learning.
I believe that achieving these outcomes may be obtained more easily via lessons learned in this course.
I declare that in submitting all work for this assessment I have read, understood and agree to the content and expectations of the assessment declaration.
