Meeting People You Admire / Spanish Film Festival

Friday, 24th of April I went to the ‘Revive The Spirit: They Are All Dead’ event as part of this year’s Spanish Film Festival. It was based around the first Melbourne screening of Beatriz Sanchís‘ black comedy ‘They Are All Dead’ which was followed by an interview and Q&A with Elena Anaya who’s in the leading role and one of my favourite actresses. My friend and I had the standard short conversation and cute photo with her at the after party but I found myself at a loss of words once I actually met her.

If I wasn’t so happy about the opportunity altogether I would have been extremely disappointed in myself. My original goals and reasons for studying Media were  to gain skills to eventually be somehow affiliated with the Eurovision Song Contest in press or broadcast etc pretty much ideally any work with SBS, Greece’s broadcaster ERT (or NERIT now) or wiwibloggs. Seeing Eurovision as a fan I had similar experiences with performers but given that most meetings were coincidental there was little time to talk- not having much to say is probably better.

The problem would be how would I thrive professionally if I physically can’t make insightful conversation with people I admire?

At least I can use this as a learning experience for another skill I aim to develop, ideally while I’m still at Uni and can pass these situations off as ‘inexperienced student nerves’.
