Reporting: With this course, my main issue is working with the studio structure and how the broadness of it affects my understanding of where my main point of focus should be at times. This means I tend to stress on unimportant events while thinking they’re important or vice versa or sometimes feel a bit lost when there’s a lot of different approaches that exist and I need to choose one. Potentially though, the issue is my own shortcomings with self-directed learning.
Relating: I’ve had similar experiences in completing art and media folios in high school, I had picked those subjects specifically because I was very enthused to complete work that I was interested in and made in my free time. With art it was basically a loose structure where different ‘aspects of the creative process’ were to be shown throughout the folio but otherwise there were very little restrictions. I found it easy to lose track of time, sometimes spending weeks on something that I wouldn’t develop and then have to struggle to give it a purpose. .and sometimes spending little time on work and forgetting to show the development details! Even when travelling and being somewhere where there’s so much I wish to do but ending up doing very few activities which even in turn affect the ability to do other activities. I am able to research, develop and record a process however I think my weakness is organisation and following instincts, that is, to not overthink choices and processes.
Reasoning: I’ve heard the saying ‘don’t try and fit too much in one day’ and have experienced the benefit of clarity from writing lists of thoughts. I know this practice benefits To combat stress I’d recently started committing to daily lists of what I do, almost like a diary. It was originally to-do lists but I found it disappointing when I wouldn’t complete single things so I found it more fulfilling writing after it’d been done and it also helps motivate to get more done in the day.
