WK2 : A COLLECTION OF LIKE OBJECTS – “QLD Covid Check-In”

Check-ins are an unavoidable part of our lives post 2020. To make contact tracers jobs easier, we must be entirely trackable. I’m unsure about the other states in Australia but Queensland has been manic about it, especially in the last month. Check-in at the doctors, at Woolworths, outside of a shipping centre PLUS every store you then enter, check-in at the coffee shop, bank, movies. I recently went into a residential building and had to check-in there…as a visitor. After taking these photos I noticed how interesting it was to see how different places frame their check-ins. Perhaps if you were a tourist and you had never seen a QLD check-in poster you might not realise what it’s meant for – some shops are very basic with a single sheet at the front door. However, there are some places that have very specific signifiers as to ascertain the posters purpose.

The first picture below is a good example. Not only is the check-in poster in clear view, there is also a bottle of sanitiser, a box of tissues and TWO signs that tell customers to STOP and adhere to the COVID rules. This was actually taken as a doctors office and you can see the receptionist just behind. She had put the check-in poster directly in front of her so that it was impossible for patients to miss it. Which is a stark comparison to the fourth photo, which was taken in a kebab shop and has been hidden behind a container of straws.
