W7 | Technique | How to remove acne and blemishes

I deal with many participants who have acne and blemishes on their faces before, some of them have a wide-range acne mark. Personally, I don’t like participants who have a serious acne problem on camera. But sometimes I still need to deal with them, for photography and videos. This tutorial includes my previous experience of smoothing skin, but also adding some more new techniques in different software.

Photoshop

A common situation in acne problem is with photos. And with photos, photoshop is an easy and fast way to remove anything that you don’t want, including acne or under-eye dark circle. Because I’ve known how to do it in my previous work, so a reference is not concluded in here, only for a summarize tutorial.

There are two ways to remove acne.

The first one is the most common one, which is Spot Healing Brush Tool. It’s like a “blur-brush”, you can remove anything with simply click the spots multiple times. But sometimes a hard line might be created on the picture, at this point, using the Patch Tool, drawing a circle and change it into other good spots, to create an illusion of the face doesn’t have anything wired.

Premier

When dealing with a video, it’s a bit tricky and complex. And Premier is a basic software for editing.

According to Bryant (2016), One of the ways to remove acne is with Gaussian effect with a mask.

Because it’s a video which contains multiple images, so one mask is definitely not enough. We need to use the tracking selected mask for the next step. And what you also need to do in here is that you might need to stop the process and track back and forward to do it manually to put the mask in the right spot.

A few tips that I want to say but Bryant didn’t mention in his video is that you need to cut the framing before adding this effect. Because the tutorial is a continuous video, while more commonly we will do it in editing with different clips together, you don’t want to put the mask in the whole video. This is the experience after I tried it on my video, and the tracking might be a little bit tricky, but practising more can do a faster work.
