I have down my self-portrait video before this workshop, but in this class, I noticed that the sounds must be original recorded, so I have to record the sounds. But I found hard to do this because I cannot find out what sound is match to the video. I went out the classroom and started to think about that. Finally I record three separate sounds, two of them are recorded after I went back home. I still cannot remember how to export the video, so I need to find the guide and follow each steps. Hope I will get more familiar to Pr. While I follow the checklist to submit the work, I am not sure about the one that put a copy to the folder, I just put the checklist and video in the Google drive, but I could not find the folder mentioned in the requirement.

Reflection about the “Follow your passion” video
In the presentation, Cal Newport says that if a people doing a job that is he loved, he will give 100% passion on his work. I think that’s true. The same as in studying. If a person is forced to choose the course or major he doesn’t like or even unfamiliar with, he won’t take it seriously, because he isn’t interested on it. As a result, we should clearly decide our future either on study or career. This can make us have a positive cycle on the emotions, attitude of work and work efficiency. Nowadays, lots of parents force their children to do the things they don’t like. That’s unfair to the children, which might let them negatively; the worst consequence is they probably become rebellious.
Initiative post about week 3
According to the exercise from the lectorial, I know that human’s logical thinking decide a lot of things. Although the texts are not in the right order, we can still read what happened in this story. However, we might not order it correctly in a limited time since if the information is various and no in order, our minds are easily to be disturbed. The logic is from common sense and experience. This can impact our view to an object. I think the personal view from everyone can give different opinions of an artwork, so we can have discussion on the workshop thus we can absorb different views.
Self-portrait Premiere
Reflection about self-portrait video
My achievement of this project is to express my interest, painting. But if I only put a lot of paintings together to make a video, it would be boring. I think to record the process of I paint is better.
My idea comes from my desk. I have a box of color pencils on my desk. I think about the painting idea after I saw those pencils.
At first, I made a big mistake, I forgot to take the photos and the video in the same size. The consequence of it is when I put the components together, it sometimes square, and sometimes become 16:9. I don’t know how to fix it, but I can’t take the photo again because I took it along with I drew the picture. Then I asked my classmates for help, but they don’t know neither. Finally I used app on the phone to add a frame around the photo, then I can reset the size in Pr easily. The second challenge is that I don’t know how to rotate the picture at the beginning. Then I found the tool in the effect control and then I fixed it.
The most successful part of this is the theme I shot. I think painting can closely show my personal hobbit and the thing I do usually. The weakness of this video is the sounds are not as much as harmonious. And the component is limited.
I have a background music that is from the internet, and the address is: http://www.flashkit.com/soundfx/Instruments/Guitar/Banjo_Li-fredaldu-7867/index.php
Reflection of Haiku exercise
I am curious of Premiere because this is my first time to use it. I used to use AfterEffect to make video, it is so different from Pr. In the Haiku exercise, I did not add much effect and additional method, I just put two video together and put a background music in it, I still feel confuse on using this software.
(I forgot to screenshot the timeline in Pr of Haiku exercise, so I screenshot my self-portrait timeline)
My personal views of Reading 3
After reading the comics of week 3, I learned that human have their inertia thought base on their life experience and common sense, thus they can imagine the rest part of a subject without seeing its whole appearance. So do making a film, filmmakers do not need to write the whole story within a film or a scene because the time of the movie is limited. Audience can associate the lacking part according to the showing part; and everyone has imagination, if the movie leaves some suspense, it is usually better to make audience think.
This comic also told us, there six transitions of making comic or film, which are moment-to-moment, action-to-action, subject-to-subject, scene-to-scene, aspect-to-aspect and non-sequitur. Those enrich a media artwork, and can be used in several types of media such as comic.
After watching fashion media studio
I went to watch the studio this Friday. It is about the fashion media. The class is so different, we watched lots of videos the whole class. Those videos are ad or mv, which are incredibly creative. Teacher explained the technique of that during the video playing. I learned a bit about it. He said most of those are made by Premiere, sometimes Photoshop, and a lot of techniques are quiet simple. For example, editor just zoom in and zoom out the character, makes the frame look intense. Another video is made by two transparent images overlapped, looks magically. The teacher told us it used Ps to edit the pictures, very simple. I think the the technique is easy, the point is the idea. The challenge of making a video is creativity. Besides, I feel confused about the video sometimes, I cannot get the point of some videos. I asked Samantha, she said sometimes meaning is not necessary, they don’t mean to show us their meaning. I think I get part of it.
Haiku exercise
“Initiative” post
The haiku in week 2’s class reminds me my pervious reading about Eastern haiku. It is a little different from the haiku we saw at class. It is combined by three lines as well, but the capital word of each line should be another combination, which is read vertically, usually would be a name, or a noun. Its origin is from China, and widespread into countries like South Korea and Japan, then they develop separately. I think we can explore more during the class.
