film/tv 1 – analysis/reflection week 1 Q. 2

the most interesting point i found in the lecture was the discussion about all films or stories needing an  event/problem to move them forwards. it just made me try to think if there are any films i could think of where there is no major problem that must be solved by the protagonist. of course, this leads me to realise, if there is no problem that must be over come, then it is pretty much just watching someone I’ve their life with nothing happening and that is boring. thus, a story or film only exists if there is something interesting for the audience to watch and the event/problem creates that interest. the audience wants to see something outside of their everyday boring lives. and the protagonist must be given something to work towards so that thhe film/story can have a conclusion.

i also liked how jasmine showed that it is possible to take mediocre, everyday events and turn them into a major plot event. for example…. walking the dog is not a story event or problem. but if the protagonist is walking the dog and is suddenly abducted by aliens who are about to begin a war on earth then suddenly there is a story because there is a problem that must be faced by the protagonist.
