Work Experience – Week 5.

Frustration with a lot of the sound design led me to delete many of the vehicle sounds  I had previously created. This wasn’t too much of a worry though as we are always told that its okay to “kill our babies”, pardon the expression.

With a fresh canvas I began reworking the sound design to better result. I was particularly happy with how the forklift was sitting within the mix, and I found that dropping back a lot of the more obtrusive sounds helped create a more realistic environment.

Work Experience – Week 3.

Week 3 of ‘Expect Delays’ involved the implementation of sound design for the first half of the documentary. Sounds of cars, machinery, and electronic devices were either recorded in the field or sourced from sound effect libraries on the internet.

I also began experimenting different ways to give the machines more ‘personality’. Layering ‘cries’ from animals such as tigers, lions, and elephants helped give the machines greater ‘weight’ and allowed them to stand out above the ambience.

Mock-ups were sent to both Mitch and Catherine to ensure I was on the right track.
