This is more a concern than reflection, but what if my group has a falling out? What if we are unable to agree on ideas, or times to film, or just don’t want to work together on something? Despite the other issues raised through my partner being one of my best friends, it would be damaging to the work, and honestly, I don’t know how I’d get through it. This is purely hypothetical, and if I’m honest, I don’t really see Sam and myself having a fall out big enough to effect this, but I thought it would make an interesting blog post, even if not focussing on not my specific group, but on how this effects group work in general. Obviously, communication would be crucial. I think that’s where Sam and I are lucky, however in the future, it might not be so easy. I most likely won’t get partnered with someone who already knows me and – for the most part – gets me and who I don’t feel I should hold back around. I think that it’s an unfortunate truth that in some group situations you can feel as though your ideas are unwanted, or your creativity and vision can clash with others in the group, and that can be frustrating. Is this where you should split the group? Do seven sketches each, in your own style and to your own vision, and let that be it? I don’t think so. I think that yes, that could be an easy solution, but I believe that there needs to be an overall vision for the sketches to mean anything or achieve any understanding of the topic being explored. I also think that its good to work as a group, even if the group is frustrating or the members clash, as its good practice. Not just at group work as a part of our professional futures, but as a part of being able to read people. We are in a communications course, we need to learn how to communicate with all kinds of people, not just those like us. It could be a real learning curve to have to work with your opposite. Still, I remain happy with my peaceful partnership. Although I think it would be helpful to work with someone opposite to myself, I think it is more useful to work with someone who gets your creative visions and can push them in the right direction. I think Sam’s good for that.
