Week 1 : Media Sketch 1

Microchip (Media Sketch 1)

New Year, New Studio.

As part of our weekly posts, we have to do a weekly Media Sketch to convey our ideas out in visuals. In groups, we came up with a concept which shows what it would look like 10,20 or even 50 years in the future with the lists of Social Issues.

As for my group, we decided to tackle technological, population and scarcity of food and water issue that could happen in the future. Our concept centre around microchips, how the microchips have data of the people (from their class to medical information and even credit card).

I used the microchip concept and decided to make a movie trailer of my own. Alan allowed us to use still images and sound (including voice-overs). My difficulty would be that I didn’t have a guy to help me voice over certain characters in the trailer, thus I had to play around the pitch on Premiere Pro.

I hope that the audience would be able to identify my idea of the segregation between the “Uppers” (upper-class people) and the “Undergrounds” (lower-class people) in the trailer. How the main character, Dylan, who belonged to the Undergrounds, found out that his parents passing wasn’t an incident after they helped developed the microchips for the government. Also, finding out that the government have plans to solve the problem of overpopulation and scarcity of supplies in the country, which will end up in deaths.
