Jake Low
Jake’s work was very interesting and I think it’s very successful in terms of presentation and attraction. The use of background music, sound effects and it’s visuals were very entertaining and colourful. The visuals and sounds had definitely served its purpose in regards to the concept he was going for which is the feeling of intense and nerve-wrecking. The presence of the timer counting down on the screen made me panic everytime I look at it. I really think that he was very smart in utilising his skills in photoshop/after effects and made everything looked more fun to play. The way he added a space for quick humor at the end after passing the game where he used an anime character made everything so much better. I managed to see other players laugh when they interacted with his game regardless of it being intense. His project was pretty good so there wasn’t much I could think of about what could be better. I think he could maybe add an introductory story in a form of a video for players to watch so they could get into the gaming mood more as it fits his concept a lot.
Charmaine Lee
I found Charmaine’s solo project idea quite interesting. I think that a colour blind test can be quite fun and it is a good oppurtunity to actually learn something about yourself. When I first tried out her test, I thought the pictures she used were actually quite difficult for me to see and it took me at least more than 5 seconds to actually get the answer right. However, I think that the problem with this concept is that it wasn’t too entertaining for me because it was quite direct and simple. It took me about 1 minute to complete the test but the requirement for our final assessment was 5 minutes. I believe that she could add some sort of a mini game into the test for each question in order to make things more interesting and hard so that people could pay longer attention. She could also add a reward when the test is completed.
Trista Zheng
I absolutely loved Trista’s project. I had zero experience in playing the piano and I never really got the chance to play a real one. I don’t even know how to read a music sheet but her project had made me feel like a dream come true. The feeling of being able to play a whole song onto a piano by using the keyboard only made me happy in a way. The sounds from the piano was very soothing to my ears and the way she had presented the music sheet for non-talented people like me was quite easy to follow. I think her project is very successful because it took me so long to completely play the whole song and yet I loved every second. When I finally finished, it felt like I achieved a new skill. What I think could be better is that sometimes, I would get lost in the texts and numbers and I forget where I am up to. It would be great if there was an indication to show us which key was last pressed. I would also love it if I could record my own masterpiece and have it replayed or saved.
