Show One Wrap Up

In the lead up to our first show we had a session at the studio to record our one hour of show. I was really nervous about presenting, however it struck just how easy this was. I felt that Kenton was easy to converse with, however at times I felt that it wasn’t quite as balanced as it should be. I noticed in the practice recording that a few times we spoke of ‘a great interview’ coming up, not giving the audience a chance to make up their own mind. This was picked up in our feedback. Bec nailed the paneling. A great trick that I learnt from this session was to overlap the transitions, from music to promos etc. It then comes across as smooth and professional, and you cannot notice a transition.

On the day of our show, I got there early, however Laurie Levy got there slightly earlier. I found that before the show it was difficult to chat with him because I was so conscious of not speaking too much about the topic, however this was really all we had in common at this point. Although trying to be as professional as possible, we were all a bit nervous and I think this came across to the interviewees. It probably didn’t help that the group before us come out and asked us if we were nervous for our first show.

Despite a few hickups at the beginning with transitions from song to ID’s, there were very little issues. I was really prepared for my interview. I wass sure to be as knowledgeable about the topic currently as possible. I also thought a lot about the sequence of questions, and practiced the questions enough to remember them. I was hoping that this would help me listen to the answers, however there were times when I was too busy thinking about the next question to listen to the answer. Kenton was good at listening to the answers and encouraging him to elaborate. A slight miscommunication between Kenton and myself meant that I was ready to wrap up the interview and had announced where the audience could find more information, when Kenton continued to ask questions to drag out the timing. When listening back I thought this was a bit of a difficult moment, however I think it can be forgiven.

The show went smoothly enough, despite the fact that our timing wasn’t great. I feel like we had good flow between light and dark, and we worked together easily enough for the audience not to be uncomfortable.
