Wk 5 Epiphany!

Hi Robin and Paul!

Here we are again!

I haven’t looked intensely at reflecting upon our group and classwork when we are making media, which it occurs to me now that I SHOULD BE ALWAYS! and trust me, the epiphanies are rich from doing the group work. Although I am not a great example of camera exercises and group work because I have done ALOT of these through TAFE and work, BUT I still find use in doing them because you importantly learn about how other people work and operate. Your (Robin’s) instruction and guidance i find engaging because you think much differently to the way that I do which is important to consider, I am a very cut and dried person whereas you are much more involved and keen to focus primarily on the craft and don’t let other factors influence the craft.

My fellow students are excellent in their thought processes as well, I believe you can learn so much from others if you listen and observe what they have to say. Regardless of wether or not you agree you are gaining another perspective and adding it to your collective knowledge.

The stairwell scene we had to shoot I found enjoyable because it forced us all to work together and hone our skills for the common goal of the scene. It is Important to understand people’s background and utilise them for the betterment of the film. I directed the first one and i am a firm believer that the director is the mentor, the friend, the confidant, the mediator, the peace giver and the guider. People are a big part of any film, and each time I work on any media I enjoy interacting with these people and trying to get the best out of them.

The end result was okay, could have been better. I probably didn’t provide enough direction to my camera operator and as a result the film was shot halfway to what he thought I wanted. None of our faults, but in future i will be sure to amend this. I am excited to see how the short scenes we shot in Class last week will turn out!!!!!

Karl.
