CC Vs CPyright

This week in class we were looking at comparing Creative commons and copyright. Personally i believe that we cannot compare these two things because although they deal with similar things they are vastly different. Its almost like comparing paintbrushes to paint. They seem to be the same thing to a person who looks at them on the surface however they are quite opposite. They are in fact almost opposites completely. because copyright is a restriction and Creative Commons is a free for all.

One similarity between the two however, is that in both situations there is a ‘creator’ – i mean there always is God  – but in this sense it refers to art. The creator is essentially the owner of the work, and has rights to the work, so despite the tone with which i opened up this post, they are indeed in a way similar.

Who is the Digital Me?

Ive always said jokingly that I don’t really care about my own web privacy, because if anybody WANTS my information, they can have it – Im not really joking. Well, basically I would say that Im a trusting person, if a website tells me that my information is private, I believe it. But when it comes to public information I don’t mind it being out there. I am quite present on social media and the web in general, in fact I strive to be as active as possible, I try to post something on Instagram daily, even when im feeling lost for inspiration. This I suppose is a massive part of who I want to be.

Who do I want to be? Who am I currently? These are questions which I suppose are way overdue. On the web specifically, my main goal has always to be a personality, most notably a YouTuber. I started making YouTube videos in 2009 and since then Ive been working on refining my skills to make better YouTube videos. This goal means that I need to have a solid web presence, thus I try and stay active on other social media, in order to build an audience. I will discuss the Idea of building an audience some other time, but for now the most important thing is I have a goal…

I have added a Widget to the sidebar of this website that will always display the latest video I’ve released, additionally ill try and post behind the scenes of any projects im working on. Within reason – because i don’t like the fact that any content on this blog gets creative commonized – which reminds me I should check on instagrams policy.

Student Charter

Today in the first tutorial for Networked Media we were asked to look at the Student Charter. Surprisingly, this was the first time that i had seen this charter. It basically outlines the expectations on how students are expected to behave. Describing the responsibilities of the students and the university. When considering how this applies to my future blog, i can only think that i need to keep in mind the fact that im representing the university. Although i am theoretically an individual, my operation on the blog will be closely linked to the responsibility i have as an RMIT student. This would mean keeping my expressions in line with uni policy. Not doing anything which violates the charter, or hurts the university.
