This first week for augmenting creativity has been very different compared to my other classes in university so far. The first lesson on Monday taught me heaps surrounding coding which was a topic that l touched on a bit in high school but not a lot so to get to do a bit for the first workshop was great. The LeWagon activity was initially quite confusing to me when they were explaining how code worked and what each line meant but once they gave us the design to copy it became a lot clearer as why certain lines were needed. The Monday’s big focus was on how we were going to use AI tools and how to document our progress with them which didn’t really make much sense to me cause l feel like AI is automatic with most things so there really isn’t much you need to document or work on but we’ll see l guess. Another topic we touched on was academic integrity with the AI tools which l thought was a very necessary and much needed topic that l got a lot of vital information that helped me understand the course and what work we’d be doing using the tools and how. Wednesday had a larger focus on PowerPoint starting with a discussion on computational logic, a topic that looks very difficult to grasp my head around but maybe l’ll pick it up through the semester. My biggest discovery from this lesson was that machine learning and artificial intelligence aren’t the same at all, ML while yes is a subgroup of AI it’s focus is on improving based on past experiences. AI is a method that allow a machine to use learning and intelligence to perceive their environment intern increasing the chances of goals being achieved. The first assignment became the talking point for the rest of the lesson with the assignment being a mini documentary on a aspect on everyday AI I think l want to try to find a topic for this that l know a bit about or have used something like that. This first week has been an eye opening and intriguing introduction into all things AI with a much-needed focus onto how we’ll use AI in the course while still making sure everything we make is still ours. l’m very excited to see where the course go and what l end up choosing for my first project.
