Future Machina: The Age of A.I.
For Week 1 of the studio, the class was looking into future predictions and technologies, especially what we thought the future would be like in terms of what would have been invented, what would work/wouldn’t work, etc. For my ‘Future Starter Pack’, I heavily focused on the negatives of the future, such as lack of privacy, conflict between the government and the working class, a new virus, etc. The course has already taught me to think about how we can use the idea of the future and its positive and negative aspects in order to create media that touches on the moral, ethical aspects of technology and how technology will be used to impact our society in both harmful and beneficial ways.
I think the portrayal of future technology, especially A.I has been quite negative in the media industry, especially in films – where A.I is depicted as taking over humanity. I believe the discussions we’ve had in class has helped wrapped my head around what to expect for the future, especially with our viewing of “meta-humans” and synthetic humans created with A.I, I believe that there is a lot of crazy potential for those technologies to replace humans when it comes to “less appealing” jobs, so that humans can create more careers in the field of robotics.
I will round off this blog post with the starter pack I created. Hopefully our future is not like this, but unfortunately we cannot really predict where the world is going at this point.
