How did you author the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?
As mention in the ‘Week 9 Content‘ blog, I wanted this week to be ambiguous, abstract and involve some sort of revelation, where my doll would emerge from behind a door that audiences couldn’t recognise in the photo works.
Through writing these blogs I realised that each week my videos are developing a similar theme. Specifically where the door is opened and the doll is usually waiting behind it. This was subconsciously done to demonstrate the affordances of doors, being; they can afford to be opened, they can afford to lead you to another room and they can afford to hide things behind them that the user wasn’t anticipating. And this is what I have tried to author in my video content – behind each of these doors, the doll lurks. And on a metaphorical level, the photo works are representative of a shallow, superficial insight into the world of doors, but it is not until we are presented with the video of the doll inside the door that audience delve inside the world of door affordances.
Similar to the photo of the week, I had to move closer to the subject in order to get the framing right. The flash was not used in this video in comparison with the photo of the week as I wanted the revealation of the tea cupboard to be calm and controlled. There was unintentional music playing in the background but I kind of like what it does to the art-house edge of the film footage.
How did you publish the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?
Only one video was shot and published onto the gram this week. Only one take was needed too which was impeccably efficient for time management. I wanted to experiment with a few more hashtags than my other posts to truly see how much more engagment I could get on the video, especially by using generic (but a little left of brand) hashtags such as “#tea #earlgrey #englishbreakfast”. The hashtags and caption are detailed below.
How did you distribute the video you published on Instagram to other social media services?
The video was distributed to Twitter and Tumblr. To further experiment with hashtag use, I used a different set of hashtags for each platform, the set are as follows:
Twitter hashtag set: “#tea, #earlgrey # doors #doordoll #teaforlife #teaovercoffee”
Tumblr hashtag set: “tea #dolls #dollslovetea #doors #teacupboard #yellow #sunset #canaryyellow”
Hopefully tailoring hashtags to specific mediums means I ran distribute my content to more audiences and therefore get more traction for the doll himself.
