14 – NEW & IMPROVED

We’ve gone through a lot of changes this past few weeks, and oh boy are they changes. As a group we never anticipated anything to be easy, but the challenges we’ve faced from casting to structuring a basic story has been an experience that I suprisingly have not had until now. Now we have to submit something that has to be changed, or in this case updated. Our original logline and summary for our short documentary have now officially been updated and I’m ok with the changes we’ve introduced to help reflect the product we actually ended up creating.

Logline:

Inside Melbourne’s iconic Queen Victoria hides a small store dedicated to Lollie Lovers. Through the eyes of Terri, we see the joy and sweetness lollies bring to people’s lives.

Synopsis:

Lollie Lovers is one of the confectionery shops at the Queen Victoria Market. A generous woman with beautiful short purple hair and bright colored eye shadow, Terri, works there. Confessions of a Confectioner tells a story of Terri’s experience working at the shop and how it brings her back to her childhood memories. She has a joyful and bright personality, which influences her positive actions towards others and her own motto in life. As a result, her optimism is what drives customers to think of her as simply a ‘Female Willy Wonka’.

EIGHTEEN – THE COW IS COVERED WITH FLOUR

So last weeks comments and today’s editing session were crazy. I saw Rohan today, which I didn’t expect to happen. It’s a Wednesday! but perhaps he already arranged to be meeting up with the other groups there, since I saw a few myself. Going in with Jon to finish off the grade was an experience. We finally did it though, and the post about that will come later on when we know Abby is happy with it, but today I wanted to talk about my first time grading something.

It was wild from start to finish to keep things simple. Jordan had already gone through the beginning of the video with some edits, but I found them too much and distorted too much. His addition of a yellow layer didn’t fell right to me, and Jon who was with me felt the same way too. So while I was there I made an alternative edit, with the raw being the basis and popping up the green a little to emphasize the beautiful scenery we had in the gardens.

A/N Update 24/2 – This post was cut off while I was transferring stuff from tumblr back to here. I think I go on to say things along the lines of, “I wasn’t confident in my ability, but at least I tried it.” and the music video I linked was Meryll Streep’s Last Midnight from Into The Woods movie.

SEVENTEEN – ANY MOMENT

So this is going to be a short one guys.

First of all, our fine cut is due tomorrow and I am slightly worried. We didn’t receive a lot of good feedback last time Rohan saw our group, and Maggie has been stressing me out in the edit suites. I mean I get it, sitting in small rooms and sharing that space for long periods of time can take a toll on people, but I just want this to be over soon.

In other news I’m also excited to share what we have with everyone again. Our principle editing is done, and now our grade is all that we need to focus on. That’s been the part where I am completely and utterly useless. I have had no experience playing around with colours before, but I am still super eager to try. I’m thinking of just letting Jordan do his thing and me sitting there watching every single step he does. I found that’s the best way for me to learn, it’s how I learnt to edit in premiere with a friend last semester, and hopefully this technique wont fail me now.

Anywho (I think I’ve said that too much) I am going to leave here with my worries in my head, and my life in the classes hands. I respect everyone’s feedback from last time, so tomorrow let’s hope for more awesome advice, and more great edits like Nikki’s group with their magical floating head. Not gonna lie that bit where his silhouette just started moving along the sides got me good.
