Machines are becoming too intuitive/ intelligent

Is artificial intelligence real? If we create a program to do something for us, say make a calculation, is that not artificial intelligence? Just because the program was created and the values added for the purpose of this calculation by humans – does this process by which an answer is found not classify as artificial intelligence? The fear that calculations will be made without specific parameters determined by humans seems confronting. We fear our own extinction because most films: I Robot, AI, The Matrix all suggest that the logical conclusion to our growing environmental sustainability is to eliminate the human race. What then? Does the computer not calculate its own impact afterwards? If the damage is done, should we not ride it out until the end? T S Eliot says the world will end “Not with a bang but a whimper”. Enjoy it while it lasts, and if you are concerned about computers taking over the world, just look outside the window at people enslaved by their iPhones, computers and tablets, and ask yourself the question again.
