The pitches were a struggle to design coming off the back of assessment 2. My biggest problem with coming up with ideas was trying to not make it like anything we’d already done in class or seen examples of. While the core of the idea wasn’t my own, I did think that trying a more scripted comedy focused tv show would definitely be challenging but could also be rewarding to complete. However I do understand the concerns that were brought up within our feedback, especially considering the actual run time of the episodes needing to be so long and the writing tending to lean more towards sketch comedy. That and the ethical concerns of portraying real world struggles of a culture our class doesn’t belong to (I.E deportation). I think if we were going to implement parts of our idea into the major project, it might have to be more like the sitcom style as mentioned by the guest panel as that would allow us to maintain the comedy but reduce the run time issue. It could also mean making the show from the lens of someone living there, rather than just treating it as a pseudo news broadcast. I really enjoyed all of the other pitches from our classmates, especially the way that the fashion theme one tried to add stakes by using the idea of their outfit made on the show going to playback/the exhibition for the studio. I also really enjoyed the way that the group who did the hidden fake fan idea, it was a revamp of an existing piece of content and if it was a real show could have been very easily marketable across social media. I think the hidden fan group’s idea is something that is both achievable and challenging for us to put together, which makes it a perfect choice for our assignment.
