Rather than reflect on a specific piece shown in class, I wanted to go over what I felt were the most important parts of observing other people’s works and adapting their ideas, techniques and concepts into my own work. Throughout the semester there were a number of works that made me consider unconventional approaches I could be taking in my own media work that I hadn’t previously thought of, with many of the indirect interviews, punishment park, and (I’ve forgotten what it was called but the one with the two actors reading the love letters) being ones I especially enjoyed and are some fantastic examples, having taken advice from the first in a class exercise, and the latter as part of a personal creative writing project. After leaving uni and going into a professional media field, being an individual and taking on ideas that the mainstream hasn’t considered is a big part of my personal goals, and I think that observing other people’s work, and adapting some of the themes and concepts that set them apart whilst also making them something unique to me is something I need to start doing a lot more.
