From the studio I was in, Eco Video, I reflected on two other groups’ works. The first media work I decided to reflect on was ‘Between Worlds’. The overall key idea the studio eco video taught was the concept of creating ecological intimacy through media works. This particular media work I feel captured this concept extremely well. They were able to draw a parallel between humans and the ocean and convey a sense of fluidity between the two, which I thought to be a very clever perspective I had not considered before. I think the layout of the project, being a multi screened video, in combination with the voice overs and the slow paced editing, overall made the project an incredibly immersive and engaging experience. I really felt the soothing nature that the project hoped to evoke as well as being able to decipher between each story being told by individuals and their relationships they have formed with the ocean.
The next project I looked at was ‘Framing the Hill’. I really enjoyed this project’s take on exploring the relationship between people and the environments they find themselves in. I loved how they chose to portray this through the use of a narrative video and the different techniques they used in which to still make it an immersive experience. I really enjoyed the beginning, the use of elevated sounds being used combined with the visuals and then contrasting it with silence when the protagonist dropped the camera bag. This part I found to be very engaging and definitely created ecological intimacy. The narrative aspect as well was also a very clever way in depicting the uncertainty of the environments in which we find ourselves in, by drawing on their own experiences they faced when filming. Overall I believe both of these sensory video works create an engaging and immersive experience and did really well at incorporating the concepts we learnt throughout eco video.
The studio I chose to look at was Ready Camera One, which from what I gathered was a studio that taught the practices of using multi-cameras for television production. From watching two of the media works that were published on the media factory website, I could see that creativity was encouraged and explored within this studio rather than only focusing on the technical aspects of learning to use multi-cameras. The first project I looked at was ‘Mr Matchmaker’. This was very entertaining and I can see the immense effort that was put into the pre-production process. I could see the effort that was out into the scripting and casting that would eventually be turned into a humorous and light-hearted program. I think the vision this group had was definitely met as I found it to be a very entertaining and enjoyable watching experience. The next piece of work I looked at was ‘Liar Liar, Pants on Fire’ which again was another comedic and entertaining take on a program. I could see similarities between both of these projects and their aim to evoke an upbeat feeling. I could see the use of technical abilities being shown with the camera switches as well as the images coming on to screen and again think this project did a good job at achieving its vision. Overall I think this studio wanted to focus on creativity as well as technical skill and I think both of these examples prove that these goals were met.
