How do we make an online screen media project that builds from the possibilities of online spaces? This is the next question raised and in order establish this my group and I need to create multiple media types interrelating into one project. We were allowed the possibility to continue our research about time however through brainstorming we were able to find a more intriguing concept. The idea is to focus on Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and create a fiction project. We want to challenge ourselves and do something different therefore we have decided to go on a different path compared to the previous assignment. In this project however I must regard the idea that simplicity at times is sometimes best.
Many individuals are unaware of the condition known as Dissociative Identity Disorder as it is very rare. In summary the disorder can be characterized by the presence of two or more distinct personality states. In order to show this an idea, we had was to develop several journal entries through the subject of vlogs. By collecting real life stories of people going through DID and researching on related production works, we can hopefully gain a better understanding on the characteristics of this disorder. Our research will also involve watching movies and dramas (such as Split, Kill Me Heal Me), which can help us on the development of our project for example with the camera angles, perception of character and storyline.
We want to create our project in a way where we can promote awareness and not villainize the disorder. We are getting a nonfiction topic and making it fiction by developing a made up character and showing the different types of experiences that one faces with DID. The multimedia element that we will incorporate is YouTube and Instagram and in each platform we will show a different personality that the character faces. This will all be linked to an interactive website such as WIX. Developing an online website is more personal as it is place for individuals to express themselves and their inner thoughts and we want our project to feel as real and authentic as possible.
Our overall goal for this project is to show the perspective of one going through the disorder and by creating a website with links to other multimedia platforms can hopefully help educate others about Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).
