From the class discussions we were able to develop our project even more, we decided to make our videos more abstract by incorporating texts and images with different sound effects. The clips will be videos of our lives in Melbourne showing the multiple perspectives of each group member pacifically on a ‘Friday In Melbourne’. Mentioned in my previous blog we will be categorizing our videos under ‘suburb’ and ‘city’ and in each section we aim to create a timeline, with the different times of days. Doing this will answer our interactivity question and create the non linear montage element that we were looking for. This will allow individuals to view different fascists, voices and people throughout Melbourne.
An online program that will be able to create our idea and make it interactive is Korsakow. It is a program that allows individuals to create their own interactive projects in a non liner way. I decided to investigate The Korsakow project ‘Thinking with Your Hands’ as it has some similarities in regards to our own ideas. It is created by using a montage of images that are all spread out and made to be explored. The project shows a variety of clips that showcase a range of hand gestures used by individuals. Once clicked on an image the project allows you to go on a journey and explore the other multiple images and videos. The development of the project was far from simple however, the concept was a little underwhelming and I found it hard to continue the project’s path. It did however incorporate the aspects of modularity as the clips were made in fragments and variability as consumers get the opportunity to create there own journey and path within the project.
My group and I decided to play around with the program Korsakow. For me it was very difficult to start with however I slowly began to get the hang of things. In Korsakow you can not edit footage you have to bring in the footage through SNU’s (smallerst narrative unit). This allows the fragment (clip) to always remain the same. The Korsakow project use’s the clips to create patterns. These patterns are used through in and out Keywords which is very similar to tagging. An interface on Korsakow is what a person sees when they interact with your film. It is basically the design and layout of the project. We began to start our Korsakow project by uploading each of our videos and creating an interface.
Our interface was designed so you could see all 4 videos with one being the key to the next interface. We used a lot of in and out keys to make this possible as we had 36 videos. For example, all our 8am videos were used with the 8am key’s and each of our names. The one that transitions into the next interface had a 10am key. We had many complications before successfully completing all the keys ’s as well as figuring out the design of our project. We still want to place each of our videos in categories ranging from city and suburb making it even more interactive however we don’t know if its possible.
