Developing a theme is very important as it is the body of the project. From the sunless & diaries, notes and sketches clips especially the ‘Sans Soleil’ short by Chris Marker, we came up with idea to share the life of Melbourne for our Assessment 3 project. The idea of traveling and exploring are factors that we want to incorporate in our project. We raised the simple question ‘what is Melbourne’ as we want to show individuals the beauty of the city we live in. This non fiction project is aimed to show the different spots of Melbourne mainly focusing on the suburban and city areas. The concept however may be to simplistic, so by incorporating text’s and imagery from social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, is an example of how we can incorporate modularity and make it little more complex. Including posts that are based around Melbourne can really demonstrate the large influence that social media has on individuals as well as invite audiences to view our project. Within our theme of ‘Melbourne’ we will pacifically be targeting new residents and international tourists. We aim to do this through a montage of images, hopefully allowing our target audience to get a feel of the Melbourne life.
Recent feedback questioned our interactive element and the simplicity of our theme. Group discussions have suggested to incorporate links from restaurants or coffee shops filmed allowing individuals to gain access to other online platforms. However, the question remains, ‘is this interactive enough?’. A majority of Melbourne videos focus on individuals walking up and down the streets of Melbourne in a time lapse form. This to many people is very simple. An alternative option is to show what is unique about Melbourne by developing each fragment in different times of days. We want to create different camera angles and movements to show creativity and differentiate our project from others. These transitions can be done through premier pro or directly from the camera.
The constraints include, coming up with the times of days, when to film, camera movements and the duration of each clip. These constraints can be difficult without the right equipment and lack of planning. Organising and working collaboratively as a group can help us get over the hurdle of our constraints.
