After completing Assignment 2, when I mainly explored west sides abundantly cultural food scene, I’ve been reflecting on whether these ideas I explored are really what I want to pursue for my final project. As I discovered while making my last project, exploring the food scene through restaurant owners and staff proved very difficult without any connection as no on was very willing, for me forming friendships and building trust for them to allow me to film and collect their stories would be really difficult as I live so far away it may be too time pressing and I don’t think I would be able to create and properly reflect and execute my ideas. Also reflecting on the ideas I was pursing, I think they with the way I was planning on presenting them may be a bit contradictory. I was intending on showing rich cultural aesthetic of Melbourne’s West, mainly Footscray, in order to help erode its ‘dodgy’ image which it has been given by people from south-east and northern suburbs, however, I think the way I was planning on showing this would have come across as a bit promotional and thus in a sense promoting gentrification, which is a serious problem currently posing on the West and I don’t want to be apart of that. So I think I will stray from this idea and start researching other topics, I am currently looking more into women’s stories of the west, as I am very passionate about woman studies. I think this studio has been very valuable to my growth as a media creator as it has really challenged me to explore through the full ethics and impact in which I want to give to my future projects.
