Project Brief 1 – Video Portrait
So I’m not the most experienced filmmaker but through this movie I tried to show where and how I grew up. Driving lots, surrounded by dogs, playing netball, spending a lot of time in my room reading and avoiding eggs. I’m pretty simple really.
My film uses 4 audios, each I tried to inherit something different and new into the video. The first is the piano sequence at the title. I used to play both the piano and violin, I loved being creative with instruments and making my own music, so instead of using an image of a piano I put in the sound of one. The whistle is obviously related to Netball, I spend a large portion of my life obeying umpires and it seemed a fitting way to begin my first marked assignment that was a self-portrait. The background audio and commentary were both ways to help communicate what I was trying to display and make it more interesting.
The Videos and images I took and used were not planned. I first thought I would plan them but I didn’t want to showcase a superficial version of me. Instead I took them as I was doing something I realised I did a lot. For example I went to a netball match and thought “Hey, I could put this in my film” so I perched my phone in the gutter (classy and professional I know) and simply took some footage.
Though it wont win any prestigious awards it does capture me.
