Project Brief 4 – updated

After listening to Robbie’s feedback about my video, I decided to redo my first and second sequence to create more of an abstract aesthetic, in which questions the perception of gravity. I also was not happy with my audio, and Robbie told me to work with the spring sound i originally had. I attempted to mix it in with the old audio, and make a new one but I wasn’t having much success, with the assistance of Robbie and Jordan however, we decided on placing the same piece of audio three times, and altering the sound by enabling the flex range in garageband. The sound that was produced from this matched up well with the theme I was going for, it was abstract and unnatural, which supports my theme of questioning gravity/movement. Here are the two new videos and audio sounds:

This week we had our first meeting at Signal on Flinders lane for our Project Brief 4, it was a lot harder to find than I had anticipated but I eventually got there. We were all upstairs discussing our themes, and ideas each individual we had, and then someone from the Signal team presented to us how we would display our artworks through the building. There are four projectors set up around the upstairs room, that work to flip the the images and project them through the windows, so that viewers on the outside can see the films. There are speakers set out along Flinders lane and around the building, and all of it is controlled within the building. This means that we need to set our films in a very wide screen with minimal height to work across all four screens, it’ll be interesting to see how this works out.

Media Studio | Thurs Wk. 8

Today we were introduced to our final collaborative project of the year, Project Brief 4 at Signal.

“Signal is a creative arts studio for young people 13 to 25. At Signal, you work alongside professional artists in a collaborative way. Located in the heart of the city, Signal is a place for making, showing, inspiring and developing Melbourne’s creative young talent – in every medium.  Signal is open to young people from all walks of life and ability – you don’t need any experience to take part at Signal.”

We have decided to have our exhibition for the Specific To Site class hosted here, and we will create four 8 second films, accompanied 30 second audio piece. At Signal we will project very wide-screened films across windows on the cornered building on Flinders lane all in align with a particular theme for each individual, I’m very excited to work on this project, it’s something I haven’t done before and I’m also excited to see what everyone else will produce.

As this is an exhibition run by us, we have divided our class into teams to help the production of this event, there is a PR team, documentation team, tech team and more. I was placed into the PR team with Rose, Linda and Marissa, and we are going to be involved in promoting the event and getting it recognised by the public, which includes advertisements, invites, press kits, and creating a website.

Media 1, Week 6 Tutorial Reflection

Today’s tutorial was beneficial because I learnt how to use a recording device as we spent an hour recording a range of different sounds and seeing how a particular microphone worked in different situations. Problems we encountered were being placed in the CBD, and therefore if we tried to arranged to record a conversation, a truck may beep in the middle, and also other conversations would get mixed in the recording. The microphone did do a great job of recording, however it was impossible to remove background noise. Our most successful recordings were of myself talking, and an interview within the classroom as many people had left so the only sound you could focus on was our voices.

What I discovered about the mic technique was if you held the microphone too close to your mouth, the sound produced was very scruffy. The microphone needed to be about 10-15cm away from the microphone to hear a clear tone, however if they were yelling or talking loud, it would need to be drawn even further away. Once recordings had been done, our group uploaded our files to our computer and created a log on excel of our findings, which is also where we reflected on what we had achieved in this recording experience.

Project Brief 1

Self-portrait #1: Energetic

Photo 1

In this photograph, I utilise my face to symbolise my identity, and then my hair to represent I am loud and enthusiastic person. All together, especially with my hair caught in a chaotic motion, represents my energetic personality.

 Self-portrait #2: Wired

Photo 2

With the use of the PlayStation controller replacing my eyesight, I am expressing my love for digital technology. I am obsessed with the video game Spyro, I spend majority of my time either on my laptop, my phone, or watching television. I’m rarely in an environment that doesn’t connect me to Wi-Fi or have a strong 4G connection.

 Self-portrait #3: Inception

Photo 3

I began this image by taking a photograph on my laptop of me first, and then setting it to full screen. After many attempts I was able to capture myself where I was aligning the picture with me. This digital inception portrays my ability to stay as the same person no matter the situation. Although you’re looking at a photo of me in a photo of me, I still look the exact same as I fail to change myself to suit someone else’s standards, as I advocate maintaining a strong identity.

 Self-portrait #4: Lost

Photo 4
This last photograph depicts my blindness about my future. I hate when events and life is not predictable, as boring as that seems., that’s just how it is. I am still unsure of what I want to do when I leave university and it scares me, and this digital image indicates me confused and lost about where I am going next.

 Video #1: My second home

Work is considered my second home, I have been involved in gymnastics since I was a child, and I have been a gymnastics coach since I was 12 years old. This is my 7th year of being a coach, and the coaches especially are counted as my second family.

 Video #2: Hamish

I spend a lot of my time at home, and so does this little guy, he is respected as another family member in our household. He sleeps on our beds, eats with us, and watches TV with us. I’m home a lot with him and although he doesn’t understand, he brings such a sense of comfort and love, and yes I know I’m speaking about a dog here but that’s how it is.

 Audio #1: Work

I love my job mostly because of the children I meet and get to work with. I have come across hundreds of children in my time as teaching and they never fail to make my day. Most people dread going to work, yet I go there knowing I’m going to leave in a great mood.

Audio #2: Family
This recording was of majority of family having a regular conversation in our lounge room. We speak loudly and argue quite a bit but it’s just the way us Blundos communicate with one another.

 50 words to describe you:

I felt that the best way to have 50 words to describe myself would be to have my closest family members and friends pick around 5 words and send them to me. I am aware some words are repeated but I just copied and pasted what one would say. Some I can agree with, some are questionable, but nonetheless here they are:

“Breath taking, amazing, goddess, beautiful, charismatic, strong, loud, funny, Nice, friendly, creative, disorganised, messy, fast, flexible, sporty, childish, lazy, caring, funny, loving, loud, and full-on, funny, energetic, lively, friendly, caring, foot hater, sarcastic, smart, funny, loud, funny, outgoing, happy, beautiful, charismatic, ambitious, annoying, funny, outgoing, smart, fat, ugly, chat”.
