Week 12, Media 1 Tutorial Reflection

Unfortunately, my group members left our class halfway through just before I arrived, so I didn’t get to share my work. Luckily though, I had completed everything I wanted to, and all I had to do was put it together. It was annoying they left, however, I was late to class. Nonetheless, I shared my advertisement and my sound introduction online and it was all okay. In class we worked on a learning graph, and I begun to start editing my podcast and putting it together, I was very pleased with the recordings, and all I shared my script to my introduction, and aim to record that in the next couple of days.

Media 1, Week 11 Tutorial reflection

We got a little bit ahead of ourselves, and when were to present our first draft to Dan, we tried to discuss with him extra work to do, such as creating a website to support our podcast and luckily for Dan, we realised that we were doing extra work, and therefore we decided to stick to our simplistic podcast idea and try put all our creative thoughts towards that. We shared our ideas with what we wanted to record, and some of us had created a script. We decided that by the end of next week all of our recording would be done with that, and we all would have one advertisement. Hopefully everyone is successful and we have more to show next week!

Media 1, Week 10 Tutorial Reflection

This week we had finally come up with an idea for how we want to portray our artefact, we decided to create a podcast, and we would split the workload up into 3 segments. We split the segments up in a different way this time, I was going to discuss the relationship between music and emotions, Helena would discuss the educational use of podcasts and sounds, and Katie was going to discuss the use of radio and voice communication.

We also decided to make it more realistic we could create advertisements and a radio station to represent to spark up the creativity with our work. Hopefully it turns out well!

Media 1, Week 9 Tutorial Reflection

Due to my birthday celebrations (yay 19!) I missed out on today’s tutorial. However, I contacted my group and we had still decided to stick to splitting out assignment up in three chunks, Helena exploring the modern side of sound, Katie exploring the traditional side, and I was exploring sound and it’s connection to it’s audience. Our annotated bibliography was due and I found 5 articles, some were about music and emotions, one was on the meaning behind the human voice, and the other were about particular sounds and the reaction from a particular form of audience. It was a bit challenging, the information was very “Dry” and so it was hard to stay focused. If I am to use the info in my podcast, I’m going to have to brainstorm about how I’m going to make a little more “upbeat”.

Media 1, Week 8 Tutorial Reflection

In today’s tutorial we were given a large sheet of A2 paper to brainstorm our topic, “mediums” from this we deciphered which particular medium we would like to direct our focus on, which was sound. We split sound into 3 forms and allocated each member to research that topic and fid 5 references for their annotated bibliography. This brainstorm was very helpful in that it allowed us to communicate and share ideas and find a direction in which we would like the follow. We demonstrated a lot of collaboration between the two of us, except our third member was missing and therefore, we didn’t reach the full potential of sharing ideas with her absence.

Media 1, Week 7 Tutorial Reflection

During today’s workshop, we got to view everyone’s Project Brief 3, and it was good to see everyone else’s and how they interpreted the assignment, and who they chose to interview and why. There were a lot of very different films. After this we got selected into groups for our final Project Brief 4, one of our group member was absent and therefore Helena and I shared our videos and we provided feedback to each other.

Her feedback for me was that: she found my found footage relevant however she thought I could’ve used more. She said she enjoyed it and found it inspiring to complete yoga and overall thought it was a good film.

After this we begun working on our Project Brief 4, our group was given the topic “mediums” which we are very excited about and we have decided to display it as on a website and therefore we can demonstrate all forms of mediums on the one thing.

Here is the link to Helena’s blog, and below is her Project Brief 3 final

Media 1, Week 6 Tutorial Reflection

Today’s tutorial was beneficial because I learnt how to use a recording device as we spent an hour recording a range of different sounds and seeing how a particular microphone worked in different situations. Problems we encountered were being placed in the CBD, and therefore if we tried to arranged to record a conversation, a truck may beep in the middle, and also other conversations would get mixed in the recording. The microphone did do a great job of recording, however it was impossible to remove background noise. Our most successful recordings were of myself talking, and an interview within the classroom as many people had left so the only sound you could focus on was our voices.

What I discovered about the mic technique was if you held the microphone too close to your mouth, the sound produced was very scruffy. The microphone needed to be about 10-15cm away from the microphone to hear a clear tone, however if they were yelling or talking loud, it would need to be drawn even further away. Once recordings had been done, our group uploaded our files to our computer and created a log on excel of our findings, which is also where we reflected on what we had achieved in this recording experience.

Media 1, Week 5 Tutorial Reflection

Due to work commitments, I was unable to get out of this course my boss paid for to update my qualification and therefore could not attend. From what I heard I missed out on presenting my video as well as seeing many others in the class, which is disappointing. However, I was able to look at others on their blogs and I was very impressed with many of my other classmate’s work. We also learnt how to work a new camera, and microphones to utilise for a Project Brief 3 (which I am struggling to think of a subject to base it on) so I will have to ask a classmate to show me how to work one of them, or my tutor next lesson.

Media 1, Week 4 Tutorial Reflection

Unfortunately I was ill and could not attend this week’s tutorial. However, I was still struggling to actually start my Project Brief 2. I was sitting, drawing and extending on my brainstorm all week and I still had not attained an idea to produce my assignment. Until Friday, I had some form of an idea, and I had to rush through a weekend to capture and print photographs of 8 people and then figure out how I would move my idea from my head into my computer. My piano had been moved into storage while we renovate and so it was out of tune. Therefore, I had to learn how to use Garageband to play the instrument, this was the part is struggled with most as I didn’t know what sort of music I wanted to be played in the background and I couldn’t play all the chords I wanted to at the same time, all I knew is that I wanted it to be simplistic and on the piano.

Once I had this done, it was me to get set on filming and editing all the pieces to join together. Hopefully I finish in time!

Media 1, Week 3 Tutorial Reflection

With the use of my media files, in order for my peers to understand how these represent myself, I had to explain to them how it represented me and why it did because there was only so much you could read into my photographs, videos and audios. All my work depicts who I am and what my values are but my peers extended their media files out to others who represent themselves. I think that in my next project I could involve people that are considered important to me. My peers deferred from the traditional self-portrait and involved family members and closer friends and partners which I found very expressive of them. I think the peer-feedback was useful in that you could have a view of what others have created, and create more ideas from it. I wasn’t too nervous about presenting but I felt like I could have done a better job with my media project as I wasn’t a fan of presenting raw material however that is why I am so excited for my next project as this is where I can involve editing skills into my work.
