Experiencing my first editing today in the lectorial I began to wonder what is the purpose of editing, aside from the obvious; to tell a story and piece together information.

What else can you achieve? There are countless effects and ways to manipulate images and sound, how does this affect the viewer? Perhaps editing has escalated western societies’ self image problem, or emphasized the unachievable “American Dream”, constantly providing unrealistic expectations for it’s audiences. The perfection and subtlety with which our media is presented can also be seen as an art form, a patience and precision that should be respected. Editing allows the artist to point the audience towards a focus, communicate a message without words, deliver a mood and portray a genre. My head starts to explode when I think of the never-ending possibilities.

I am on the edge of my seat to try my hand at this new and bizarre art.
