Melbourne has been famous of its amazing artworks around the city, wonderful brunch places and the trams in the middle of the road. People in the CBD of Melbourne must have noticed so many people are using bicycles as their mode of transportation.
These collection of like-objects of the bicycles is to show the life of bicycles which even though they are not being used it shows a sense of their job or duty as an object. As in one being laid on a grass shows that the bicycle is for leisure in comparison to the one strapped to a staircase of a school shown it is a mode of daily commute. In addition, the most interesting image for me was the mini-bike at the store, while following the life of a bicycle story that bike can represent the idea of waiting for its duty whether for Sunday lazy rides or a kid’s first bike. Therefore, it is interesting that a same bicycle that is being put in different places or situations can represent different uses for the object.
In that image other than the bicycle itself there are other signifiers that can be identified such as the pole. In which, the pole can represent different uses just like the bicycles, one can be for showing street signs or traffic rules and another can be for securing a bike so that it will not be stolen. Another signifier can be the plastic bag where it is clean and white where in a city it can be considered as trash but when it is taken in such rural and dirty areas it can be the cleanest object there since how clean the plastic bag is.
