I was talking to my mum recently about the media industry (or at least what I have learnt of the industry so far), I found it so interesting because really the only industry I have ever been fully aware of is the mining as both my parents are exploration geologists. So all the adults in my life have basically been from that sort of a background. In any case I was discussing how the industry was so small and that you really cant be mean to anyone even in first year because they could be the deciding actor in you getting a job in industry. And then mum pipes up,
“Yeah it was the same for me going through,”
I thought about this for a second and I started making these weird connections in my head,
- Both small communities in Australia
- Both run in a boom and bust cycle
- Both a “nessecary evil” viewed by the public
- Job security isn’t a thing
- Freelancers are common place
- Predominantly male dominated industry
I found it very interesting that 2 so very different fields could have so much in common.
