MMoW#13: LOCATION INFORMATION

A corner of my apartment’s basement car park area.

Need to ask two residents to use my family’s car parks instead of theirs for the shoot day. Have already asked one. (I’ll get my brother and my dad to move their cars out for the day.)

Dimensions: 4 metres x 5.5 metres (PLUS the space of the two connecting car parks which will be empty)

There will be cars that come into frame in the Lubezki-inspired long take tracking shot. I’ll just have to go with it. It’s not essential to have perfect production design. Maybe the setting is like a garage in the corner or an underground car park, who knows?

Concerns / things to sort out:

  • Lights go off after a little while. But the timer can be changed. I need to figure this out.
  • Noise (of air filtering thing) comes on after a while. Again, the timer can be changed. I need to figure this out.
  • Need to run a lead all the way to the corner to provide power.
  • Will be people coming in and out and driving in and out. (But that’s not really an issue.)

Pros:

  • My own residence = so. much. easier.
  • Big enough and high enough space for camera tracking / dollying / lights / everything.
  • Protected from weather (which has been awful recently)
  • Shooting time not dependent on daylight / time of day. Could even make this a night shoot.
  • I love the grunge look of it and there’s plenty of things just lying around that I can use to dress the set a little bit (not a lot). I also like the fluorescent (I think it’s fluorescent) lights on the ceiling. The space has the potential to look quite dramatic on camera.
