I find it so hard to sit and listen. I’m a visual learner/creator/person/human. So when I have to sit and listen to a podcast or an audio essay *nudge nudge* I find myself sitting there and involuntarily visualising what the accompanying video footage would be (or should be). Spoken audio pieces always seem half way to me, they’ve just been ripped directly from a film and therefore missing the visual aspect; (WHERES THE VIDEO WHYS THE SCREEN BLACK HELP). Even with audio sound effects I picture their origin and I paint a portrait of the narrator. But maybe thats the point? Does it aim to allow the audience to direct their own film in their heads, with a pre-made soundtrack and dialogue? I don’t know. Audio is fascinating and so important in the creation of film, and so I miss the film when it’s not there. I think I need to learn to accept that audio essays or podcast can stand alone.
