We’ve progressed too much.

I can’t even have a cup of tea without being badgered to check Facebook. Yes on the reverse side of Lipton’s tea bag tag is the classic Facebook logo “give us a like!” I hear them shout from their CEO offices in the marketing department, as if by liking their Facebook page is a marriage certificate and by clicking one single button I am committing to only ever buying their ‘quality tea’ and drinking it each and every day until I die.

Sometimes I feel that big businesses don’t understand social media like they think they do, or would like to: take the Denny’s tumblr account for example. It’s some kind of American restaurant, or takeaway, I actually have no idea but every now and then the intern sitting behind the Denny’s tumblr account jumps on board with a new meme and tries (much like an aunt who thinks she’s cooler and younger than she really is), to ‘get in’ on the joke. The response, in theory would be that we all have a good laugh and then head over to Denny’s to buy as much as we can afford right? Well in reality what we get is a cringe-worthy attempt at being cool and a dead meme.

No one really wins. Unless you still end up going to Denny’s.
