In this assignment, we are going to create manifesto to challenge the cannon, based on the short positioning statements in assignment 2. There is a collective opinion of our group which is “what diversity is cannon missing”. Before our discussion, we concluded our positioning statements to the other members and exchange our ideas together. Considering by yourself is difficult that the logic of individual is simple. However, brainstorming together is a strengthened power in the collective working. The consequence is sometimes concluded in the processing of studying and brainstorming. Everyone in our group is equal to contribute our ideas in this assignment. We also listen to all the ideas carefully. Both expressing and listening could improve our collective work and be beneficial for our creative modifications. Members in our group also trust each other enough to share their own opinions and ideas. Although this kind of trust is intangible, mutual trust develops the extent of our group process and demonstrate personal responsibility. It is also important for group members to give and accept feedback from others’ ideas. The positive suggestions are useful for group’s improvement. Listening suggestions is not only a behavior of respect, but also beneficial for personal clarification. In this way, the changes will be more and more positive. What’s more, critical thinking is an essential skill for an efficient team. An efficient teamwork needs members to have many qualities including having the collective goal, contributing a good critical thinking skills and being skilled in good communication.

Based on the canon list, we concluded several types of diversity and find the particular aspect we are going to explore. When we spoke about diversity, the most agreed upon aspect was the importance of diversity in the on-screen representation of a film. Due to the important position of diversity, our manifesto project talks that there needs to be equal opportunity for everyone to express their story through art, and the canon needs to exemplify a wider scope of what art can be. The purpose of our design is going to give subsections their own canon and encourage filmmakers to tell their own stories without the limitations of diversity. All of the process we were making is very efficient that we make the topic and distribute work to everyone. We discussed together as a collective with a large amount of opinions and feelings which build many creative and critical ideas. It is necessary for filmmakers to add new blood to the film industry that if the critics and programmers are always changing and improving the standards of films, the range and quality will be developed and improved in the future. The manifesto of this topic “diversity” could be beneficial for the better diversity of the film industry.
