Reflection

In the video I wanted to convey this idea of the role of music in my life and how without it the world has always felt disjointed and colourless. This project was enjoyable as it gave me the opportunity to experiment with premiere’s effect and colour correction sections, learning a variety of new techniques and ways of conveying messages through video.

I knew I needed to convey this idea of the story being disjointed at the beginning and become much smoother at the end once the guitar is introduced. I decided the best avenue to convey this was to use stop motion style editing for both the photos at the beginning and to edit the videos of the train to be really jarring. I was happy with how this effect came out, it really did feel disjointed and jarring in all of those scenes. Then for the final scenes when the music was introduced I really wanted to experiment with different frame rates and see if that could successfully convey a feeling of clarity and smoothness. The videos were shot at 60FPS and while they did look nice, I don’t think they came across as overtly smooth, the main difference that I noticed was using those last shots with slow motion they were very smooth as they were cut down to 30FPS. I worry that this message of disjointedness without music is unclear which I feel a lot of writers and content creators feel when their work borders on pretty abstract, I do hope however that the text that I used just before the headphones scenes help the audience understand the concept I was trying to convey.

The main issue I had with my final product was I thought it felt a little rushed, that I tried to put too many different elements in too short an amount of time. I think this came down to my allocation of time inside a 1 minute window to tell a story, that I spent too long on the train which did not really need to be there. The main take away I will have from this project is to allocate time in a video better, as the amount of time in scenes of any content conveys to the audience its importance.
