Assignment #4.5 When it’s All Over

As we come to the end of assignment #4 for Real World Media, lets address the following prompts…

In what ways do you hope your creative exploration is received by its audience?

For the exhibition, I hope that our audience feels a child-like joy and curiosity when experiencing our work. Even if not all elements of our story are completely understood or comprehended, I want the sandbox to spark joy, the colors to dazzle the eye, and the discussion around our exhibition to bring people together and interact in a way that cannot be replicated through screens.

I hope that the exhibition is received with open minds, where our audience can use the Codans to reflect on the patterns of humans and that while being entertained, our audience is inspired to self-reflect and look inwards to see how we could change our ‘destiny’ or evolutionary path to not end the same way that these two great civilizations fell.

What was it like preparing for the exhibition and then seeing your work presented and viewed?

I had a great time setting up for the exhibition. I was really glad the team arrived earlier than planned. It took a lot longer to set up than I anticipated, and we are constantly looking to add more to our exhibition. When the time guests started to arrive, it felt as if we ourselves had only just appeared.

Leading up to the exhibition, I loved having a plan set up with our placement and exhibition layout. It took away a lot of the stress from the day and made our vision come together seamlessly. Although I did start to panick when our TV was non-functioning, we rallied and found a solution that worked for us.

I was super proud of our group. Seeing a real space take form, with all of our ideas and art, was really special. I think it really reminded me of the importance of this studio; being present in the real world and how actively cultivating a space is incompairable for an audience, for the experience, the story, and the atmosphere.

Reflect on your collaboration for Assessment 4. How did it go? What would you do differently next time, and why?

I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. I thought that my group was fair, kind, and on the ball. As someone who is highly organized *controlling*, I often feel like I compensate for group work assignments to achieve the goals I set for myself. I did not once feel that way with this group or throughout this assignment.

I would say in this instance, where a lot of free rain was given to us over our media choice, it was most beneficial that everyone in the group had a hobby they loved that we could incorporate into the assignment. It made the assignment fun and exciting, and everyone was eager to present something they loved to do.

If I had to choose something to do differently next time… and I do, I would have discussed with my group their types of learning styles and the way they behave in regard to assignments. Although luckily, it worked out very well every time, as someone who is usually ready a few days before a deadline, I would’ve appreciated knowing that others are more relaxed and that although the work is being done later than I usually would like, it was still being done equally by everyone and to the same high standard. This would’ve helped me to be less frantic and also understand my group members more. Aligned goals are the best way to work well in a team.
