The Tote on film

I’ve been trying to think of ways to discuss and represent the Tote. I felt a sense of grunginess and low fidelity at the Tote while we visited there. I think it could be really great in this sense to use film to document it. For one, film is a tangible and physical way of documentation, and fits perfectly into the theme of remains and physical traces that we explored last time around (and which I still am interested in).

Secondly, film would aesthetically describe these feelings of grunginess and perhaps more evidently low fidelity. The grain that follows with film creates a very surreal effect where you feel very intimate with the moment, which is something I’m fascinated with in terms of capturing the communal aspect of the Tote. I’m thinking of using this old camera called the Nishika N8000, which is an old plastic camera with four lenses. You can see the effects of this camera in this video.
