Preparation For Live to Air

From our demo in the studios we learnt a few things about what we needed to practise and prepare for our live to air on Monday 9th May. As the producer it was my role to contact all our interviewees and prepare the timing and organisation. Staring with submitting our interview ideas to Elizabeth:

Luckily all of our strongest ideas were the ones that got accepted and it was easy to move forward from here. I found it relatively easy to get in contact with all the people we wanted to interview and found communicating and negotiating with them a simple task. It was our main aim to get everyone into the studio for a live interview, rather than pre reordered or phone, mainly to make it easier on Jack, who was paneling, in the live situation.  This proved a challenge as two of our interviewees were quite far away from Brunswick, especially Emma Webb who lives in Jan Juc.

But lucky for us she agreed to come down, This really worked out well for the structure of our show as we ended up doing a phone interview with Dean from the best bunch as he couldn’t make it to the north side from the south east.

To prepare for the interviews, especially the in studio ones with Emma and Chyloe, i posted some information on their achievements and roles in the sporting industries so the Kerri and Ed would have an idea about how they might respond to their questions.

Live Show

In total I think we had a really well focused show. All of our interviews went well together and by separating the two in studio sport focused interviews with Dean from the Best Bunch on the phone we had a really well structured show. Jack did really well with the panelling for the phone interview and all the music was well integrating into the talking.

During the show, unbeknown to the guys in the studio, we had a major interruption to the Triple RRR airwaves as lightening hit the tower. This was an interesting experience for me as Gold 104.3 started coming through the signals. There was a bit of panic in the studio at the time and this made it difficult to keep time and guess when interviews and songs were over. It was a good idea not to tell the rest of the group in the studio as all of the content was still being streamed lived to air on all the digital outputs.

Overall we had great timing and stuck well to our final decided run sheet (posted below). Our interviews were interesting and engaging and gave us a great insight into the people and the industries they were discussing; they almost spoke too much but this was definitely a positive. It’s a great show to listen back to with a few slight timing issues but no major drawbacks. Overall I think we made a great show with content and music that fits closely to Triple RRR’s ethos.
