I have been stuck with what I have wanted to do for the Mimesis project for some time now. Originally I wanted to mimic the work of Melbourne-based photographer, Noa Oka who mainly focuses on capturing the growing female skate scene here in Melbourne. However, I have always wanted to do a shoot that has the essence of photographer Malick Sibide, who I did my presentation of a few weeks back.
For this Mimesis project, I will be shooting on Black & White film using a lot of flash photography to create a body of work in the style of Sibide. This will mainly be shot in a studio setting, with a piece of African fabric as the backdrop. I am quite excited about this shoot and hope I do a good job of paying ode to such an iconic photographer.
