Weekly Exercise 3 – SENSE OF TASTE

Synopsis

For this exercise, Sense of Taste, I felt it was similar to the Sense of Smell exercise. This is because they both felt like they were food related in a way which made thinking of ideas and what I could use easier for recording the audio. So with this exercise, I decided to use Samyang Korean Spicy Noodles as my audio recording. So, what does Samyang mean to me? It actually holds no important memories to me, all that is needed to know about it is that Samyang has been my favourite instant noodles since coming to Melbourne although I have a terrible tolerance for spicy food. However, Samyang was the first thing I used to increase my spicy tolerance level which makes it hold some value to me.

What worked and what didn’t

When I first started this exercise, I first thought of using steak as my audio recording prop. However, after recording all of the audios required for the exercise, I realised that I had a lack of audio to fit the timeframe needed which was 1 minute. Therefore, I turned to the next best thing that I would eat on a daily basis, Samyang. When it came to this recording, I decided to record the whole process of cooking the noodles and eating them whereas, with the steak, I was just recording the audio where I thought was best such as, having the sound of the steak sizzling, turning on the lights and exhaust, and serving it on to the plate. To sum it all, it all felt easier when I just recorded from the start of the process instead of recording certain parts of the process.
